Finishing touches

Chester Wood 8/13/10

Thank you all for your help, prayers, sweat, donations and hard work. We are not finished. Far from it. There are finishing touches on south wing. We need to build a dining hall, refinish the duplex and completely renovate the north wing to make it like the south wing. We need to get started soon. We have already made a difference for the first three families. One has already moved on, got a job and an apartment. He faces many challenges but we gave him a chance.

MATTHEW 25:35-40

“Then shall the king say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

For I was hungry and you gave me meat,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
I was a stranger and you took me in,
I was naked and you clothed me,
I was sick and you visited me,
I was in prison and you came unto me.

For in so much as you have done it unto the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me.”

LORD

If ever there was any doubt for the need of the Samaritan Inn, Lake County schools could quickly dispell that notion. Schools report there are 1,466 homeless students, as classified by federal guidelines.

The Samaritan Inn will provide temporary housing for families trying to get on their feet in these difficult times.

First resident

Chester Wood 6/30/10

Folks –   today at 9:00 AM the first resident was admitted to Samaritan Inn.  A military veteran and her two girls.  Another is to move in this afternoon and there is an interview scheduled tomorrow.  Look for coverage on the Channel 9 News, the Daily Commercial and Orlando Sentinel.  We have a lot more work to do to complete the task we started just 12 months ago.  Without the many churches, businesses and individual volunteers we could not have done this.  One amazing fact keeps coming up; this project is truly a community of faith mission and we are showing the world what can be accomplished when we pull together in the name of Jesus to reach out to people who are hurting.  It was great to see everyone who could make it to the Open House and see the progress that we have made.

1.        now that we have residents we have need for volunteers to serve as child care for the children at Samaritan Inn.  The parents need to have counseling, attend classes, look for jobs and just plain have some time to relax knowing their children are being cared for in a proper safe and godly way.  I know we have Sunday School teachers, Saturday Sunday School teachers, Senior adults and others who can fill the bill.  If you have already been fingerprinted and background checked the FBC or CCC you should be ready to start.  Remember that all volunteers must pass a background check and be fingerprinted to be a CCC volunteer.  We should have enough volunteers to share the joy.

2.       I’m working as quickly as possible to get the office at SI complete and will need someone to help me with the documentation and generally trying to keep things straight.

3.       Bob Evans restaurants from Orlando to Ocala have teamed up with us to have a promotion each month on the third Thursday from 8am to 8pm.  When you turn in a flyer with your meal purchase they will contribute to Samaritan – Christian Care Center for ongoing needs.  We are working on getting a flyer attachment that can be downloaded and presented.  The flyers can be reproduced by anyone in any quantity and they will be honored in Orlando, Clermont, Leesburg, The Villages, Ocala.  More to come.  The first day of the promo is July 15 and will continue each month thereafter.  Let Bob Evans staff know how much you appreciate their effort on our behalf.

4.       The south wing looks great and is like a castle to these ones who had no place to go.  Thank you and God bless you for your hard work and many prayers.

Round 2 is coming soon.

Please stand by.
